Weather Concerns (2-28-07)
6:00 pm. With many folks traveling to Bottineau on Thursday and Friday for the National NJCAA Hockey Finals and the State PeeWee B2 Hockey Tournament, we are very aware that many people are anxious about the weather because of the severe winter storm currently affecting our area.
Until the weather normalizes, we will try to keep you posted every few hours as to our current weather conditions at Bottineau. Obviously, weather conditions can vary greatly in just a few miles. We can only appraise you of conditions as they occur at the time of each posting.
Current conditions: Bottineau received about 6 inches of new snow today. This came on top of a snow pack of several inches that was crusted over into a fairly stable base because of recent mild temperatures.
Our winds are currently light (maybe 10 mi./hr.) and visibility is perhaps 1/4 mi. at best. It continues to snow lightly to moderately. At 3:30 pm ND Highway 5 was clear and not yet icy, though icy conditions may develop as temperatures drop overnight.
You would have no trouble approaching Bottineau at this time, but weather conditions can change rapidly.
Take extreme caution and allow extra travel time. As snowfall is expected to continue throughout the night, anyone traveling to Bottineau on Thursday is advised to arrive before nightfall (approximately 6:30 pm CST).
